Three Reasons Black Floral Foam is Fast-Becoming the New Green

Midnight Floral Foam Design

As much as floral designers apply skill and artistry to the colors and textures of their arrangements, an equal measure of cunning and know-how is given to concealing those parts of the design they DON'T want seen. Gaps between flowers and patches of wet, green floral foam are unwanted distractions from an otherwise beautiful creation.

Of course, a broad leaf can be wrapped around the inner wall of a transparent glass container, creating a visual barrier. Or the spaces in-between could just be crammed with more flowers… but a better way has emerged from the darkness. More appropriately, the better way IS the darkness!

Introducing OASIS® Midnight Floral Foam

Out of the shadows comes the latest and greatest addition to a floral designer’s toolbox: Midnight Foam from OASIS® Floral Products! Now available for purchase, this black version of classic MaxLife foam is making life easier for artists while adding a dose of high-end style to flower arrangements for all occasions. Here are three of the main reasons designers are crossing over to the dark side.

Two Floral Displays Utilizing Black Floral Foal

1) Black is still “Green”

The new Midnight color is still made of OASIS® Maxlife Floral Foam, which means it is still 100% biodegradable within 567 days. Moreover, the black foam provides dark cover for gaps – allowing for an average of 25% less materials needed for a finished design (when compared to using green foam.) More green for the planet (and your bank account!)

2) No More Guesswork

When dry, OASIS® Midnight Floral Foam is actually grey like charcoal. Once properly watered, its color turns to a deep black. This transition makes it easier for your customers to determine when your finished arrangements need water.

3) Rewrite the Rules of Design

Jet-black foam does more than cloak the gaps in your floral arrangements… it serves as a design element all on its own! Many artists are incorporating OASIS® Midnight Floral Foam as a visible anchor-point of their work. This allows for a minimalist approach while still achieving a high-end look.

Not only is there no longer a need to cover up the foam, but some modern designs call for the rich, black bricks to sit directly in the foreground. Try Midnight foam in the black OASIS™ Double Brick Tray or you can place a plastic liner or LOMEY dishes inside the base of your container to hold the foam.

What are the experts saying?

“After seeing numerous European designers create floral art using OASIS Midnight Floral Foam at IPM Essen 2018, we realized the incredible depth that can be achieved with this product. Oasis Midnight Floral Foam opens a world of design possibilities. We can create with shadow, texture and space, giving our flowers room to breathe.”

“Oasis Midnight foam is one of the most exciting things to hit the industry in a long time! I am so pumped and excited to use this product in all aspects of what I do, everyday designs, weddings and event work. The concept is so simple and logical, a dark base within the design that you don’t have to be so concerned about hiding. The black foam just fades away and the emphasis is where it belongs, on the flowers. I can spend less time concealing the mechanics and use less material. There are so many options with Midnight foam, you can choose to hide it entirely or let it be seen in various degrees to add some mystery to your work. Midnight foam is the same great quality as all foam from Smithers-Oasis, with a great innovative twist!”
